Bug#863009: fonts-hack-web: Please start packaging woff2 (and perhaps ttf-web / svg) fonts

Package: fonts-hack-web
Version: 2.020-1
Severity: wishlist

README.Debian says it does not distribute the WOFF2 and ttf-web fonts since
there is no need. Now we have one:

While working for the packaging for pagure (ITP #829046), We found that pagure
is using a bundled fonts-hack in various places and at least referencing woff2
fonts in css files. As a result, it would be great if src:fonts-hack can
provide those files commented out in the build instructions so that we could
just replace bundled files easily.

Pagure is likely to be the successor of fusionforge on alioth.d.o, but we have
to make sure pagure could enter Debian repository first.

Sure, I will take care of this post-freeze.

Hello Fabian,

We have to consider that some web fonts will likely disappear with the
upcoming major release, see

https://github.com/chrissimpkins/Hack/issues/255#issuecomment-318726468

Not sure what's the best thing to do here: I would prefer to avoid
packaging something that is then abandoned upstream.

definitely yes, thanks for the heads-up!

Also, we should keep in mind that we have have not yet found consensus
about where web fonts have to get installed into the file system (although
this is probably less critical for a package like fonts-hack which already
has all its web variants in a separate binary package).

Cheers,

- Fabian
